چکیده

Bioremediation, the exploitation of biological catalysts (mostly microorganisms) for removing pollutants from the environment, requires the integration of huge amounts of data from different sources. We have developed MetaRouter, a system for maintaining heterogeneous information related to bioremediation in a framework that allows its query, administration and mining (application of methods for extracting new knowledge). MetaRouter is an application intended for laboratories working in biodegradation and bioremediation, which need to maintain and consult public and private data, linked internally and with external databases, and to extract new information from it. Among the data-mining features is a program included for locating biodegradative pathways for chemical compounds according to a given set of constraints and requirements. The integration of biodegradation information with the corresponding protein and genome data provides a suitable framework for studying the global properties of the bioremediation network. The system can be accessed and administrated through a web interface. The full-featured system (except administration facilities) is freely available at http://pdg.cnb.uam.es/MetaRouter. Metagenomics — A Technological Drift in Bioremediation

Nature has its ways of resolving imbalances in its environment and microorganisms are one of the best tools of nature to eliminate toxic pollutants. The process of eliminat‐ ing pollutants using microbes is termed Bioremediation. Metagenomics is a strategic approach for analysing microbial communities at a genomic level. It is one of the best technological upgradation to bioremediation. Identif...

Bioinformatics characterization of PCBs and benzoate metabolism genes from Pseudomonas pseudoalcaligenes

PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls) had been widely used for a variety of industrial purposes. Due to their classification as persistent organic pollutants, their production was banned in 1979. However, PCBs-polluted sites are still present worldwide, thus leading to the need for environmental remediation strategies for PCB compounds. Several PCBs-degrading bacteria had been previously isolated fr...

Bioremediation Potential Assessment of Plant Growth-Promoting Autochthonous Bacteria: a Lignite Mine Case Study

Coal and lignite play a major energy supply role in many European countries, including Bosnia and Herzegovina. Yet mining activities are a heavy source of ecosystem contamination, posing significant environmental threats. The primary goal of this study was to isolate and identify autochthonous lignite mine spoil bacteria and evaluate their potential in bioremediation of these polluted soils. Tw...

Protease Complement of the Thermophilic Bacterium Coprothermobacter proteolyticus

Thermal bacteria that live in higher temperature have been considered as good candidates for bioremediation and processing of protein-rich wastewater. However, very little is known about the proteases, the enzymes that digest the protein wastes in these organisms. In this study, we present a comparative genomic analysis of the protease complement in a thermal bacterium Coprothermobacter proteol...

Bioremediation of Methomyl by Soil Isolate – Pseudomonas Aeruginosa

Bioremediation is emerging as one of the most promising technology for the removal of xenobiotics. Bioremediation of xenobiotic compounds by microorganisms is a crucial phenomenon by which these compounds can be detoxified or removed from the environment, thus preventing pollution, where screening of the potential degrading organism is one of the key step. Methomyl belonging to N-methyl carbama...
